Sweet Potato cinnamon rolls made with sweet potatoes, brown sugar, and powder sugar!  The perfect easy, quick, and simple dessert for any occasion.

We will have dessert every night in our house and surprisingly, my boyfriend and I have been loving this.

I guess one positive thing about eating this often is that is kind of healthy — you know since it’s made out of a sweet potatoes. I love something sweet and these sweet potatoes cinnamon rolls does it every time. They are seriously yummy! This tastes just like cinnamon rolls from a bakery but with sweet potatoes so how could it not be amazing?!

How to Make Sweet Potato Cinnamon Rolls:

Step 1: Bake the Sweet Potato
Start with one large sweet potato.
Bake it in the oven at 425°F for about one hour, or until fork-tender.
Once it cools, remove the skin and place the sweet potato into a bowl. Use a fork to mash it until smooth. You should have about 1 cup of mashed sweet potato.

Tip: Make sure the sweet potato is fully cooled before mixing. This helps prevent the dough from becoming too sticky.

Step 2: Add the Dough Ingredients

In the same bowl with the mashed sweet potato, add:

  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Cinnamon
  • Maple syrup
  • Melted butter

Mix everything together until it forms a sticky dough ball.

Cover the bowl with a towel and place it in the refrigerator for about one hour. This helps the dough firm up and makes it easier to work with. After chilling, the dough should feel less sticky and more dry.

Step 3: Shape the Dough

Lightly flour a flat surface and place your chilled dough on it. Knead it gently — just enough so it’s no longer sticky.

Roll the dough out into a flat rectangle.

Step 4: Add the Filling

Brush melted butter over the dough. Sprinkle on cinnamon, sugar, and both light and dark brown sugar.

Roll the dough up tightly into a log.

Tip: Rolling tightly helps keep the cinnamon rolls from unraveling while baking.

Step 5: Bake

Cut the log into slices about 1–2 inches thick. Place them into a muffin baking pan.

Bake at 350°F for 15–20 minutes, or until lightly golden and cooked through.

Step 6: Make the Icing

In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and water until smooth. Pour the icing over the cinnamon rolls while they’re still hot so it melts perfectly into the rolls.

Step 7: Enjoy

That’s it — quick, simple, and delicious.
